Chapter By-Laws
Amendment to the
By-Laws of the
South Florida Mini-gators Chapter
Of Little People of America
Chapter founded - 1971 This amendment presented - Nov. , 2000
Chapter approval - Approved March 31, 2001 by unanimous vote of those present.
The purpose of this amendment is to replace the original By-Laws which have been misplaced.
Preamble
These By-Laws are to govern the local chapter of Little People of America.
Article I Name
The chapter name shall be The South Florida Mini-gators.
Article II Boundaries
The boundaries of the chapter include all the area of the following counties Monroe, Dade, Broward,
Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie and Okeechobee.
Article III Headquarters
The chapter headquarters and mailing address shall be that of the current President.
Article IV Membership
Section 1 - Persons eligible for membership are those residing within the chapter boundaries who have
paid their national dues.
Section 2 - Members have a responsibility to notify chapter officers of a change of address.
Section 3 - Meetings shall be held once a month at a time and place agreed upon by members.
Article V - Publications
The chapter shall publish a monthly newsletter. Upcoming events and topics of interest to be discussed at meetings will be in the newsletter so that members know the importance of attending meetings and making their voice heard.
Article VI - Officers
Section 1 - Officers shall be President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary.
Section 2 - Election of Officers shall be held every other year in June. Term of office is 2 years.
Section 3 - Voting shall be by secret ballot. A majority of those present 18 years of age or older is
necessary for election. The election must be held within chapter boundaries.
Section 4 - No officer shall be elected for two consecutive terms, unless the office has no candidates and
the officer is willing to remain in the position for another term.
Section 5 - Duties
Section 6 - Order of succession to the Presidency shall be: Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and
immediate past president, vice president, treasurer, secretary. Vacancies shall be filled
By election at the next chapter meeting after the vacancy occurs.
Section 7 - The Newsletter editor shall not be an elected position. It shall be a volunteer position appointed by the President.
Section 8 - The President and Treasurer must be members for six months and have attended meetings regularly. The Vice President and Secretary must be members of the chapter for two months and have attended meetings regularly.
Section 9 - All officers and committees shall present an annual report at the annual meeting.
Section 10 - Committees may be appointed by the president.
Section 11-Any elected officer may be removed for failure to perform the duties described in Article VI, Section 5. A decision to remove a delinquent officer will be made by a majority of eligible voters present at a meeting, provided notice of the motion to remove the delinquent officer is given in two consecutive chapter newsletters prior to the meeting where the vote is taken.
Article VII - Fiscal Year
Fiscal year shall be from July 1 to June 30 of each year.
Article VIII - Rules of Order
Current edition of "Roberts Rules of Order" shall govern the conduct of all chapter meetings.
Article IX - Amendments
Bylaws may be amended at a chapter meeting with a 2/3 majority vote of members present and advance notice in writing of the proposed amendment in 2 monthly newsletters. Approved amendments will take effect upon approval of the National Executive Committee of LPA..
